The slims get really hot if you game on them for long periods, my play sessions are hours each and mine gets really hot star wars version however i also own a gb black as well and that doesn't get very hot, but it is newer than my main one.
Yeah the Slim exhaust if supposed to be fairly hot especially anytime your gaming. They took the CPU and GPU which in older s before the slim which had two chips and combined them into a single more efficient single chip design. So you have the single hottest component in the Slim at around using over Watts while gaming so it's not surprising.
If the fan doesn't sound really loud then you don't have anything to worry about. It will auto shutdown at a certain temperature though. Since the slim does vent the exhaust directly upward if you could have it where there is nothing between the top of the console and the ceiling and at least an inch or two on each side would be the best placement.
Would probably help it from recirculating it's own exhaust in your case. MoonShadowz I would seriously turn on the console auto off feature. Will keep the console working longer and use way less power. So unless you get free electricity or DGAF would be worth looking into. Hey that's better than mine, within an hour of just being on, no games playing nothing, my xbox gets hot to the touch.
